Elena Grek, pediatrician, gastroenterologist, leading allergist-immunologist at the SM-Clinic in St. Petersburg, told “Gazete.Ru”that the daily norm of sweets for a child aged three to 10 years is only 20 grams, and older children are allowed to eat no more than 25-30 grams.
Such a daily allowance for a child is less than a third of a bar of chocolate or two to four small candies.
According to Grek, it is unlikely that they will be able to fit into such a framework during the New Year holidays, but still, parents should pay attention to how much sweets their child eats. Otherwise, children may develop problems with the gastrointestinal tract, as well as diathesis and allergies.
Thus, the doctor explains, the ideal weight of a sweet gift for a child is no more than 250-300 grams. It is important to clarify that chocolate sweets should not be more than 30% of the set. Also, in such a package with sweets, you should put as many easily digestible and healthy treats as possible.
Elena Grek recommends choosing sweets for a gift to a child on her own, rather than buying ready-made sets.
