The mayor of the Orenburg city of Orsk, Vasily Kozupitsa, said that the peak of the flood has passed and the water is beginning to recede from the city. However, he noted that the situation remains difficult.

“I’m glad that the Urals have slowly begun to decline, and we are recording this. True, it falls differently in different areas. This gives us hope that the peak of the flood has passed,” Mr. Kozupitsa said on Rossiya 24.

On April 5, the Ural River broke through a dam and flooded several districts of Orsk. As of today, April 9, from Orsk evacuated 2.5 thousand people. Mayor promisedthat all families affected by the flood will receive payments of 100 thousand rubles. Kremlin believesthat in Orsk now is “the hottest moment,” but Vladimir Putin does not intend to visit it yet.
