The Party of Growth will unite with “New People” – Kommersant

Today, December 24, at the congress of the New People party of Alexei Nechaev, it will be announced that it will merge with the Growth Party of Boris Titov, they report “Vedomosti” with reference to three sources familiar with the preparations for this procedure.
According to the publication’s interlocutor, at 12:00 Moscow time the congress of the Growth Party has already begun in the Lomonosov cluster. There, according to him, the congress of “New People” will begin at 14:00 Moscow time. As Vedomosti notes, there is no legal procedure for merging parties, but technical decisions can be made at congresses of both parties in February.
According to one of the publication’s interlocutors, conversations about the possible unification of the Growth Party with “New People” have been going on since the creation of Mr. Nechaev’s political structure in 2020. According to the source, one of the arguments in favor of this decision was Mr. Titov’s desire to get rid of the financial burden of the party. During the discussions it was assumed that the party’s governing bodies would be united, Vedomosti reports.
According to the publication, ex-State Duma deputy Viktor Zvagelsky and current deputy Oksana Dmitrieva may move to New People from the Growth Party, for example. After the merger, the name of the party may also change, Vedomosti’s source suggests.
June 27 Boris Titov and Alexey Nechaev at a joint press conference announced about the political union of the “New People” and the Party of Growth. They expressed their intention to abandon competition in elections and support each other’s candidates. At the press conference it was also stated that the union should become a platform for a broad coalition of “all progressive forces in Russia”, ready to resist “archaic” political trends and initiatives – in particular the restoration of the planned economic system.
