Moldovan President Maia Sandu called on parliament to organize a referendum so that citizens could express their position on the republic’s accession to the European Union.
The head of state simultaneously announced that she would run for a new term: “We still have important steps to take – I’m ready to continue.”
Parliament, as she noted, may initiate the organization of a referendum next fall. “The voice of citizens will be decisive,” Sandu emphasized.
On December 14, the EU summit decided to begin negotiations on the future membership of Ukraine and Moldova in the EU.
