The parties complained about fake campaigning in the elections to the City Duma of Yekaterinburg

The Sverdlovsk branches of “United Russia” and “Fair Russia – Patriots – For Truth” complained about false campaigning for the elections of deputies of the Ekaterinburg Duma of the eighth convocation, made on behalf of the parties. This was told to Kommersant by the chairman of the Lenin Territorial Election Commission (TEC; organizes elections to the City Duma) Vadim Antoshin.
On Monday, August 14, United Russia filed a complaint with the Lenin TEC about five posters depicting Aleksey Orlov, first deputy secretary of the party’s regional branch, next to candidates running from other parties. “It has been established that the campaign materials were not ordered or paid for by the campaign participants officially. We turned to the department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for Yekaterinburg with a proposal to suppress illegal campaigning activities and bring the perpetrators to justice,” Mr. Antoshin said.
According to him, a similar complaint was received today, on August 17, by the Lenin TEC from A Just Russia – Patriots – For Truth. “According to the information of the party, printed campaign materials are placed in Yekaterinburg that contain images of candidates from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, parts of the image of these candidates, and these materials are marked as made in A Just Russia – Patriots – For Truth, while they did not produce these materials” he said. Mr. Antoshin noted that the Lenin TEC also sees the forged production of materials in campaigning on behalf of the party. According to him, the election commission will soon send a proposal to suppress illegal campaigning to the internal organs.
The chairman of the Lenin TEC explained that according to the administrative code, for violating the rules of campaigning, citizens are fined up to 20,000 rubles, and legal entities – up to 500,000 rubles. According to him, involvement in the creation of a false campaign does not threaten the party with removal from the elections.
