The pankration tournament “Heroes of the Fatherland” was held in Astrakhan

On December 9, the “Heroes of the Fatherland” pankration tournament was held in Astrakhan. This tournament took place within the framework of a federal project organized by the Yaropolk club (Krasnogorsk) with the support of the Russian Ministry of Sports and the administrations of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation.
For the first time, tournaments in different types of martial arts were held simultaneously in 15 cities of Russia. All sites were connected by a teleconference, and on the screen one could watch how athletes from different regions competed in skill and strength. About 5,000 athletes rallied today, paying tribute to the fallen Heroes of the Russian Federation and honoring living modern Heroes of the Fatherland.
Each region has its heroes, the hero of our tournament was the former coach of the Patriot club, Mikhail Chernyshev, who died heroically in the Northern Military District zone and was awarded the Order of Courage by the President of Russia (posthumously).
The Astrakhan tournament was organized by the Ministry of Sports of the Astrakhan Region and the Patriot sports club. About 100 athletes took part in the tournament, each of whom showed excellent fights, sports discipline, endurance and the will to win.
The Minister of Sports of the Astrakhan Region Nina Vasilievna Ivashkina, the Senator of the Russian Federation Gennady Ivanovich Orders, representatives of the Astrakhan Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church and the Spiritual Administration of Muslims addressed the participants with a welcoming speech.
