The pandemic reduced life expectancy in Russia by 3.3 years

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, life expectancy in Russia has decreased by 3.3 years. This was stated by the Deputy Director of the Department of the Ministry of Health for the organization of medical care and sanatorium business Valeria Gulshina.
“In accordance with the presidential decree on the national development goals of the Russian Federation, by 2030 we must achieve a life expectancy of 78 years. Unfortunately, the covid pandemic has rolled us back a little, and over the past two years we have lost a total of 3.3 years in life expectancy,” said Ms. Gulshina at the 7th All-Russian Congress of Cancer Patients.
During the pre-pandemic year of 2019, life expectancy in Russia set a record, the Ministry of Health reported. The figure rose to 73.4 years. However, during the pandemic, the situation worsened. At the end of 2021, the life expectancy of Russians decreased to 70.1 years.
