Wildberries, one of the largest online stores in Russia, lost a case in the Podolsky City Court, which found it illegal for the marketplace to require customers to pay for the return of low-quality goods.

According to RBC, Nikolai Drozd, deputy head of the Rospotrebnadzor department for the Moscow region, said that the department sent a lawsuit to Wildberries in early March, which was satisfied on April 13.

The supervisory government agency believes that Wildberries’ requirement to charge customers for returning defective goods violates applicable law. The lawsuit was filed to protect the rights of an indefinite number of consumers. Each consumer now has the opportunity to apply to the seller to compensate for property damage associated with the paid return of defective goods purchased under a sales contract with Wildberry LLC.
