It is necessary to ensure the access of athletes from all countries to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, said the head of the organizing committee of the Games, Tony Estanguet.
This is how he commented on the possible participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes in the Games. According to him, the Olympic tournament in Paris should become “a neutral zone, not involved in political issues.”
He stated that he himself was an athlete, traveled a lot and saw how sport can bring people together.
“We need to guarantee access to sports for all countries and continents. We must protect the symbol of the Games, the value of sport,” he said.
According to him, this task is one of the main ones for him, and the organizing committee plans to create all the necessary conditions for the athletes participating in the Olympics.
Earlier, the head of the IOC, Thomas Bach, said that athletes from the Russian Federation and Belarus could take part in the Olympic Games in 2024 under a neutral flag. The sports official acknowledged that their exclusion from the Games is not in line with the values and mission of the Olympic Charter. Later, the IOC announced that the decision on the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes in the 2024 Olympics had not yet been made.
The Summer Olympic Games in Paris will be held from July 26 to August 11. Earlier, the possibility of a boycott of the Games due to the participation of Russian athletes was reported in Poland, Latvia and Ukraine.
