In Abkhazia, at the age of 102, the only remaining participant in the Battle of Stalingrad from the republic, Valentina Shulgina, died. This was reported at the Abkhazian Embassy in Russia.
“Valentina Efimovna Shulgina has passed away,” said the embassy representative.
Before the war, Shulgina studied at the Omsk Medical Paramedic and Obstetric School. She went to the front in 1942 and was the commander of a medical platoon. Shulgina reached Berlin, celebrated victory there and left an inscription on the Reichstag.
Valentina Shulgina was awarded the medals “For Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War”, “For the Defense of Stalingrad”, “For Courage”, two Orders of the Red Star and the Order of the Great Patriotic War II degree.
