The Guinness Book of Records portal reported the death of the dog Bobi, who lived to be 31 years old and was considered the oldest dog that ever lived.

Bobi was a purebred male Rafeiro do Alentejo (a Portuguese breed of livestock guard dog) and lived in Portugal with Leonel Costa from Conqueiros. The dog was listed in the Portuguese government’s pet database.

It is known that Bobi survived by chance. Leonel’s father did not want to take care of the puppies and killed them after birth. However, he did not notice Bobi in the outbuilding among the firewood.

The owner said that as Bobi grew older, he became almost blind and began to have problems walking. However, his overall health was good. Costa fed the dog fresh food and did not use dry food. The dog also had good genetics; his mother lived to be 18 years old.

The previous record for life expectancy among dogs stood for more than 83 years. He belonged to an Australian shepherd dog, Bluey, 29 years and 5 months old.
