The nutritionist revealed the secret of the perfect side dish

Dietitian, Associate Professor of the Medical Faculty of St. Petersburg State University Andrey Bobrovsky said in an interview Radio Sputnikas a basic part of the diet, unfairly little mentioned in the recommendations for proper nutrition, a side dish, make it ideal – that is, tasty and satiating.

As the expert recalled, it is the side dish that is, most often, the most satisfying part of the dish, which allows you to achieve several goals. “Food pleasure and satiety from a side dish is the secret of harmony and the prevention of many diseases of civilization,” Bobrovsky noted and stressed that the main thing here is diversity.

It is very important, because any dish will cease to be useful and enjoyable if it appears on the table every day. First of all, the nutritionist notes, the fact is that one single product cannot contain all the necessary variety of proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins and microelements.

“There is a rule of five side dishes – during the week you should have five different side dishes on your table,” the expert revealed the first secret of the perfect side dish. At the same time, he noted, not without regret, that the three most popular side dishes among Russians are pasta, rice and buckwheat, although in fact, one of the best side dishes is vegetables: in addition to a pleasant taste, they give a feeling of satiety with a smaller amount eaten. The worst in the ranking of healthy side dishes from Bobrovsky turned out to be potatoes fried in lard.

“Another rule of modern dietology is to try some new side dish at least a couple of times a month, or add a new seasoning to a familiar dish,” recommends Andrey Bobrovsky, stipulating that it is seasonings that are especially important, because ordinary sauces are able to spoil most side dishes, and by themselves are rarely useful.
