Residents of Ukraine continue to leave their country. According to the Statistical Service of the European Union, in September 31,920 Ukrainians received temporary protection status in the EU.
Most of the residents of Ukraine went to Germany – 19,205 people. More than three and a half thousand applied for refugee status in the Netherlands, and almost three thousand people with a similar request were registered in Ireland.
It is Germany that is the main refuge for Ukrainians who have moved to Europe. According to official data from Eurostat, 1 million 194 thousand 900 people received temporary protection status in Germany. In second place is Poland (more than 958 thousand people), in third place is the Czech Republic (almost 35 thousand people).
The Times previously reported that the number of homeless people in Germany has risen by 50% over the past year. The publication attributed this to increased rents, a sharp rise in the cost of living and measures to combat the influx of refugees.
Earlier, the German government approved the tightening of immigration legislation. In particular, the period of residence in the country required to receive a standard social benefit was doubled to 36 months. At the same time, they plan to transfer the benefit to a debit card to prevent refugees from transferring funds abroad.
