According to Sberbank estimates, in total in 2023, 72.2 thousand transactions for the sale of bankrupt property were completed throughout Russia (an increase of 19% by 2022) for a total amount of 209.1 billion rubles. At the same time, the most sold types of property in bankruptcy in 2023 were vehicles (24 thousand lots), buildings (14 thousand), land plots (12 thousand), accounts receivable (9 thousand) and equipment (7 thousand) , according to analysts at Portal DA (marketplace for business assets and collateral of Sberbank).
“In 2023, we observed a significant increase in the number of transactions in Russian bankruptcy procedures. The average transaction value for Sberbank’s sold collaterals doubled over the year (to RUB 23.5 million). We expect that this trend will continue in 2024,” Kirill Demin, vice president and director of the department for working with distressed assets of Sberbank, told Kommersant.
It should be noted that the total number of bankruptcy procedures completed in 2023 amounted to 282 thousand, which is 40% more than in 2022. This is explained by the continuing increase in the number of insolvent citizens – from 278 thousand in 2022 to 350 thousand in 2023, according to Fedresurs.
At the same time, the number of cases in which creditors do not receive anything from debtor citizens as part of bankruptcy increased from 2019 to 2023 from 65.3% to 69.2%. At the same time, due to the increase in the total number of bankrupt citizens, their creditors were paid 47.8 billion rubles. in 2023 versus RUB 32.7 billion. in 2022.
In the bankruptcy of legal entities, the trend is the opposite: the share of creditors who received “zero” from corporate bankrupts decreased from 62% in 2019 to 54.7% in 2023. The total amount transferred to creditors from legal entities-debtors in 2023 amounted to 297.1 billion rubles, while in 2022 – 243.6 billion rubles. The predominant part of the funds for settlements with creditors comes from the sale of bankrupt property at auction.
