The British publication compiled a rating of the attractiveness of megacities

The British magazine The Economist created a “love index” for Valentine’s Day. The list of the most expensive cities for a romantic meeting included 15 around the world. Moscow was included in the rating and took 8th place, and St. Petersburg – 12th. According to the data that experts relied on, the calculation began with hotels and ended with a bottle of wine. The most expensive item was dinner for two.

Valentine’s Day is considered the top-grossing holiday, with the National Retail Federation predicting the average American will spend $186 on their Valentine’s package this year. The British publication has prepared what they call a humorous ranking of cities where you will need to fork out the most for a romantic evening.

Using data from the EIU Cost of Living Index, a British magazine created a “Cost of Love Index”. He ranked the most expensive cities in the world in which to spend a romantic evening: starting with drinks in a luxury hotel, followed by a luxurious two-course dinner and a trip to the cinema, a taxi home and ending with a bottle of good wine to top it all off. The authors warn that before you turn down dates, you should know that the EIU sets prices based on travelers’ ability to pay.

The list included 15 cities, including Moscow and St. Petersburg. In some cities this figure was much higher than in others. The top list includes Shanghai, New York and an entire (albeit very small) state – Bahrain. The capital of Russia took eighth place in the ranking, an evening for two will cost about $490, and the city on the Neva is in 12th place (dinner there will cost $450).

Couples in Shanghai can expect to spend approximately $600 on a romantic evening, according to the EIU. In Damascus, the cheapest city in the world according to the EIU, a planned date would cost less than $8.

The capital of romance – Paris – became the most expensive city in Europe and took 5th place, and New York – the most expensive in North America – took 2nd place in the ranking. At $567, couples in the Big Apple would have to spend about $100 more than the National Retail Federation predicts.

Those prices have risen over the past five years, according to the magazine: The average cost of a candlelit evening in the 15 largest cities has risen 10 percent since 2019, with prices rising the most in Venezuela’s inflation-plagued capital, Caracas.
