The number of pensioners in Russia in 2023 decreased to 41.1 million – Kommersant

As of January 1, 2024, there were 41.075 million pensioners registered with the Social Fund of Russia (SFR). Over the year, their number decreased by 699.9 thousand, or 1.7%, reports RBC with reference to SFR data.

The main contribution to the reduction in the number of pensioners was made by recipients of old-age insurance pensions – there were 885.8 thousand fewer of them. The number of recipients of other payments has increased. In particular, the number of disability pensioners increased by 91.7 thousand, to 2.23 million people, recipients of social pensions – by 52.9 thousand, to 3.41 million people, survivor pensions – by 12.7 thousand ., up to 1.44 million people.

According to the Financial Markets Service, last year the growth rates for most types of payments were higher than the inflation rate (7.42%):

• the average old-age insurance pension increased by 8%, to 22.4 thousand rubles;
• the amount of disability pension – by 8.5%, to 13.6 thousand rubles;
• payments for the loss of a breadwinner – by 9.3%, to 14.9 thousand rubles;
• the size of social pensions increased by 3.2% – up to 12.5 thousand rubles.

The average amount of payments for all categories of pensioners increased by 7.6%, to 20.87 thousand rubles. A break in old-age pensions was announced in 2023; it will also be in effect in 2025 and 2027. In 2024, the retirement age is 58 for women and 63 for men.

Payments, benefits and compensation in Russia are indexed annually from February 1. President Vladimir Putin saidthat the indexation of payments, benefits and compensation by 7.4% from February 1 affected 20 million Russians. Ministry of Labor reportedthat in 2024 social pensions in the Russian Federation will be indexed by 7.5%.

In February, the Central Bank updated the basic standard for non-state pension funds, introducing a two-week “cooling period” when concluding non-state pension agreements. Now NPF clients who have signed an agreement will have the same time to change their decision as potential bank borrowers.
