The number of evacuees after the destruction of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station increased to 5000

After the destruction of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station, 5,000 people were evacuated from the Kherson region. About it informed Acting Governor of the Kherson region Vladimir Saldo in his Telegram channel.

“At the moment, the number of people evacuated from the flooded territories of the Novokahovsky urban district, Aleshkinsky and Golopristansky municipal districts of the Kherson region has grown to 5,000 people,” he wrote.

Among them are 178 children and 62 people with limited mobility. Saldo specified that there are about 1,000 people in temporary accommodation centers (TACs). According to him, 121 buses are involved in the evacuation. Previously it was known about the evacuation of more than 4,000 people.

As a result of the destruction of the hydroelectric power plant, the death toll rose to seven people, including two victims shelling from the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the governor added. The number of victims has increased to 62, they are hospitalized.

Saldo noted that in the Novokakhovsk urban district there is a decline in water, but the territories of the Aleshkinsky and Golopristansky municipal districts are still under water. According to the governor, already now we can talk about damage in the amount of 1.5 billion rubles. It will be possible to start calculating the damage only after the complete descent of the water.

The breakthrough of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station occurred on the night of June 6. As a result of the incident, an uncontrolled discharge of water began, the level of which reached more than 11 m. A local emergency regime was introduced on the territory of the district, and an emergency regime was also introduced on the territory of the Kherson region.

Earlier, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov said that Kyiv committed a deliberate sabotage, stressing that the Russian side rejects allegations of involvement in the incident. Russian President Vladimir Putin named what happened as a barbaric action by the Ukrainian authorities, which led to a large-scale environmental and humanitarian catastrophe.
