The number of companies operating in Russia in 2023 increased for the first time since 2015

The number of commercial companies, information about which is contained in the unified state register, as of January 1, 2024, was 2.61 million, which is 0.04% more than at the beginning of 2023 (2.609 million), follows from data Federal Tax Service (FTS). The number of operating commercial companies in Russia in 2023 increased for the first time since 2015.

As noted Interfax, who analyzed the statistics of the Federal Tax Service, from 2016 to 2023 the number of commercial companies operating in the Russian Federation decreased by 1.5 million, or 37.1%. According to the tax service, over the past year the total number of all legal entities whose information is in the state register also increased by 0.6%: from 3 million 197.5 thousand to 3 million 216.8 thousand.

In addition, according to estimates of the Federal Tax Service, in 2023 the number of commercial organizations included in the state register of the Russian Federation increased by 0.2%: from 242.1 thousand to 242.5 thousand. Moreover, over the past year the number of commercial organizations that ceased their activities in connection with liquidation, amounted to 46.5 thousand, which is 5.1% less than in 2022 (49 thousand), follows from the Federal Tax Service data.

The number of companies excluded from the state register by decision of the Federal Tax Service amounted to 207.5 thousand in 2023. In 2022, this figure, according to the tax service, was 231.2 thousand. The Federal Tax Service can exclude a company from the register if the legal entity fails to provides reporting and does not carry out banking transactions or provides false information.
