In Russia, since the beginning of 2023, the number of accidents involving electric scooters and other means of individual mobility (IM) has increased by 56%. This was told by the head of the traffic police Mikhail Chernikov.
“This year in Russia, the number of accidents involving means of individual mobility has increased by more than 56%,” said the head of the traffic police during a press conference (quoted by TASS).
At the same time, Mr. Chernikov noted that it would be possible to talk about statistics in more detail only after the amendments to the traffic rules come into force and the status of SIM is fixed. These changes, he said, will make it possible to determine exactly who the intruder is and under what conditions the collision occurred.
From March 1 entered due to changes in the traffic rules, according to which electric scooters and unicycles are now considered SIM. The speed limit was limited to 25 km / h, only those who have reached the age of 14 are allowed to drive to the edge of the carriageway. Riding on the pavement is only allowed if no other infrastructure (e.g. bike lanes) is available. Fines for violating the new traffic rules range from 500 to 1.5 thousand rubles. In Moscow, according to the traffic police, 37 accidents with electric scooters have been recorded since April.
Deputies repeatedly spoke with a proposal to limit the speed of rental electric scooters to 15 km/h and ban their passage on pedestrian streets. In their opinion, it is also necessary to introduce a ban on the use of these vehicles for people under 18 years of age.
About what restrictions on the use of SIM are offered by the authorities – in the material “Kommersant FM” “Electric scooters are being tightened down”.
