Five countries with nuclear weapons, coordinated by Russia, held a working meeting in the capital of Saudi Arabia on February 29. About it reported on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.

“The next working meeting took place in the format of the five states possessing nuclear weapons in accordance with the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons,” the statement said.

The meeting was attended by representatives of Russia, the People’s Republic of China, Great Britain, the USA and France. The department does not provide any other details.

The last meeting of the “nuclear five” on June 13-14, 2023 was organized by the United States. Experts from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defense discussed strategic risk reduction, as well as nuclear doctrines and policies in this area, reported press service of the State Department.

June 16, 2023 at the plenary session SPIEF Russian President Vladimir Putin saidthat the state does not need to use nuclear weapons, but this is theoretically permissible only if the territorial integrity and independence of Russia is threatened.

Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev in January of this year also didn’t rule it out nuclear response to the use of Western missiles by Ukraine. He recalled that this could happen if the very existence of the Russian state was jeopardized.

On January 26, the British newspaper The Telegraph, citing Pentagon documents reportedthat the United States plans to station nuclear weapons in Britain for the first time in 15 years. The decision was made in order to counter a possible threat from Russia. The nuclear warheads will be stationed at RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk. They are reported to be three times more powerful than the bomb dropped on Hiroshima.
