The Novosibirsk governor, re-elected for a second term, took office

Andrei Travnikov, elected governor of the Novosibirsk region for the second time, officially took office. The ceremony, according to established tradition, took place at the Katz State Concert Hall.
Mr. Travnikov took an oath, after which he listened to congratulations. They were addressed by the plenipotentiary representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the Siberian Federal District Anatoly Seryshev, the speaker of the regional parliament Andrei Shimkiv, the senator from the legislative branch of the region Alexander Karelin, the Metropolitan of Novosibirsk and Berdsk Russian Orthodox Church Nikodim, as well as the chairman of the regional Public Chamber Galina Gridneva.
Mr. Karelin at the beginning of his speech congratulated United Russia, which nominated Andrei Travnikov for a second term. Nikodim, in turn, warned the governor that his second term would be more difficult than the first.
Three former Novosibirsk governors were present in the hall: Viktor Tolokonsky, Vladimir Gorodetsky and Vasily Yurchenko. Let us recall that the latter was dismissed by the president from his post in 2014 “due to loss of trust.”
“We have serious plans to continue the construction of large scientific and logistics facilities, to modernize the existing infrastructure, to develop public transport and the social sphere. We will make efforts to develop our regional capital – the third city of the country, the city of labor valor of Novosibirsk. But at the same time, we will always remember that the village and rural residents are the basis of our Russian identity, and very often the basis of our statehood,” said Andrei Travnikov, opening the second five-year term of his leadership of the region. According to him, the next five-year period will be “no less difficult, but no less interesting.”
Elections for the governor of the Novosibirsk region took place on September 8–10, 2023. Andrei Travnikov, nominated by United Russia, received 75.78% of the votes. In 2018, he received 64.52%.
On September 18, the inauguration of the head of the Republic of Khakassia Valentin Konovalov will take place, and the next day – the Krasnoyarsk governor Mikhail Kotyukov.
