Norwegian Ambassador Robert Kvile was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry. The reason is an attempt by the Norwegian authorities to disrupt an event honoring Soviet soldiers, the ministry said.
The event took place in the city of Kirkenes, it was dedicated to the memory of those killed during the liberation of Northern Norway. Earlier it was reported that local authorities removed the wreaths that were laid by representatives of the Russian Consulate General.
The Foreign Ministry called these actions an act of vandalism, Russophobia, disrespect and violation of the memory of fallen soldiers.
“The Ambassador was strictly pointed out that it is unacceptable to restrict the rights of Russian representatives to hold memorial ceremonies,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
