Bastrykin ordered to open a case after the assassination attempt on Tsarev

Chairman of the Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia Alexander Bastrykin instructed to initiate a criminal case into the assassination attempt on former deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleg Tsarev.

“According to available data, today in the Republic of Crimea an attempt was made on the life of former Verkhovna Rada deputy Oleg Tsarev,” the message says. Bastrykin instructed the main investigative department of the Investigative Committee for Crimea and Sevastopol to open a case.

Previous criminal case excited FSB of Russia. As RIA Novosti wrote with reference to the agency’s representative office, the case was initiated under Art. 277 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (attack on the life of a state or public figure).

The assassination attempt on Tsarev was previously reported on the morning of October 27. The chairman of the “We are together with Russia” movement, Vladimir Rogov, said that the assassination attempt was carried out with shooting and clarified that the politician was in very serious condition. The attack was later confirmed by the head of the DPR, Denis Pushilin.

Oleg Tsarev was born on June 2, 1970 in Dnepropetrovsk (renamed Dnepr). From 2002 to 2014 he was a deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of several convocations. In 2012-2014 served as adviser to the Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov.

He ran for president of Ukraine, but in May 2014 he withdrew his candidacy. That same year, Tsarev left the country and began living and working in the LDPR. Tsarev stated the need to hold referendums on the issue of independence of the republics, and also called for the creation of a federation of Novorossiya. In May 2022, he was sentenced in absentia to 12 years in prison under several articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
