The Northwestern Federal District Greco-Roman wrestling championship is taking place in Arkhangelsk

More than 60 athletes over 18 years old take part in the competition. Medals will be awarded in ten weight categories.
The competitors of the Arkhangelsk region wrestlers will be athletes from the Murmansk, Kaliningrad, Leningrad, Pskov, Novgorod regions and the Komi Republic.
At the opening ceremony of the tournament, the participants were welcomed by the Deputy Governor of the Arkhangelsk Region, Sergei Pivkov.
– We are doing a lot of work to develop Greco-Roman wrestling in the Arkhangelsk region, including opening new gyms and clubs. As a result, this type of martial arts is becoming increasingly popular, and the number of people involved in wrestling has increased significantly in recent years. Therefore, from year to year, the All-Russian Wrestling Federation trusts us to host such representative tournaments,” noted the vice-governor.
The NWFD championship matches will take place throughout the day, followed by the awarding of the winners and the closing ceremony of the tournament.
The general management of the competition is carried out by the regional Ministry of Sports and the Arkhangelsk Region Wrestling Federation.
