The ship grouping of the Northern Fleet conducted exercises in the Barents Sea to prevent unauthorized passage of ships and foreign vessels through Russian waters. The maneuvers took place south of the Franz Josef Land archipelago, Interfax reports.
The crew of the large anti-submarine ship (BOD) “Vice-Admiral Kulakov” worked out the suppression of the actions of a mock intruder vessel, the role of which was performed by the rescue tug “Altai”, also part of the Northern Fleet, its press service reported. A situation was simulated in which a foreign ship is heading to the Russian border, but does not respond to the requests and requirements of the military. Also, as part of the exercises, they worked out the actions of the inspection teams, which were delivered from the BOD to the offending vessel.
The 12th campaign of the Arctic Expeditionary Ship Group of the Northern Fleet across the seas of the Arctic Ocean began on August 10. It is planned that the fleet will be involved in several exercises to defend the island and continental territories of Russia in the Arctic.
In May, the two-year chairmanship of the Russian Federation in the Arctic Council, a regional organization that is considered the “shadow government” of the Arctic, ended. The results were ambiguous: on the one hand, due to the military operation in Ukraine, the other seven Arctic states refused practical cooperation with the Russian Federation, on the other hand, the council continued to work.
