The NHL club decided to terminate the contract with Fedotov, who returned from the Russian army
According to TSN journalist Darren Draeger, the National Hockey League (NHL) may terminate the contract with Russian hockey player Ivan Fedotov, who returned from the army.
The reason for the termination of the contract is due to the fact that Fedotov missed the 2022/2023 season due to military service.
“Now the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) is considering the application. But if the NHL wins, then Ivan will play in the NHL for the Flyers, ”the journalist said.
The player’s agent J.P. Barry also reacted to this situation, saying that Fedotov would abide by the IIHF’s decision on which contract to consider valid and binding – with Philadelphia or CSKA.
Ivan Fedotov signed a contract with CSKA on July 1. However, the NHL disapproved of this decision, believing that it violated the goalkeeper’s existing agreement with Philadelphia.
In May 2022, Fedotov signed a one-year contract with Philadelphia. However, in July of the same year, the hockey player was arrested in St. Petersburg on charges of evading military service. After that, he was sent to serve in the Russian Navy, and his contract with the American team was automatically extended for a year.
