The New Year’s BOAT has arrived at Expocentre!

The traditional, annual, beloved and expected exhibition “BOAT” is an amazing universe of unique beauty of the traditional culture of the peoples of Russia, it is a world of inspiration, a world of talented and skilled craftsmen.

By decree of the President of the Russian Federation V.V. Putin, 2022 has been declared the Year of the Cultural Heritage of the Peoples of Russia. Exhibition “BOAT. Winter Tale – 2022″ was included in the plan of main events approved on April 27, 2022 at a meeting of the organizing committee for the preparation and holding in the Russian Federation of the Year of Cultural Heritage of the Peoples of Russia.

“BOAT” is the only exhibition project in Russia that represents the entire spectrum of the country’s folk art. Every year the exhibition is recognized as socially significant and enjoys great popularity among Muscovites and guests of the capital. Creative associations, individually working craftsmen and artisans from most regions of Russia will take part in the exhibition. The holiday of beauty and creativity allows us to join forces and create additional opportunities to support and develop the craft industry in this difficult time for business, when folk craft organizations turned out to be the most affected sector of the Russian economy.

Thanks to the assistance of the Department for Investment Policy and Development of Small and Medium Enterprises of the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia and the My Business centers operating within the framework of the national project “Small and Medium Enterprises and Support for Individual Entrepreneurial Initiative”, more than 40 constituent entities of the Russian Federation, including such remote ones, as the Kamchatka Territory, the Republic of Altai and the Republic of Buryatia, the Novosibirsk, Arkhangelsk and Tyumen regions, the Altai Territory and others presented their expositions at the exhibition. This is especially important for the industry, since most crafts and hundreds of thousands of self-employed craftsmen cannot participate in exhibition projects on their own.

Participation in the exhibition of collective stands of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation allows not only to show the whole variety of traditional crafts and crafts of our country, but also will provide an opportunity to present the best tourist routes in places of traditional location of crafts, museum and exhibition centers.

The exhibition-fair of folk arts and crafts is held by the association “Folk arts and crafts of Russia”. Currently, the association unites fisheries organizations located in 48 regions of the Russian Federation. The main task of the association is to preserve folk art crafts in a market economy, support domestic producers and promote handicraft products in the Russian and foreign markets, protect and represent their interests in federal and regional executive authorities, improve the artistic level and skill, improve the skills of industry specialists, popularization of folk art. The exhibition is organized with the support of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation and Expocentre JSC.

The exposition is formed according to the industry principle: salons of porcelain and ceramics, lacquer painting, artistic wood and bone carving, metal painting, artistic weaving and carpet weaving, artistic processing of metal and leather, crystal, glass, etc. Traditionally, their best products are presented world-famous crafts and centers of folk art: Khokhloma and Gorodets, Rostov enamel, Gzhel, Kislovodsk porcelain, Kadom veniz, Vologda, Yelets and Mikhailov lace, Kizlyar, Zlatoust, Kubachi, Zhostovo, Torzhok gold embroiderers, Palekh, Kholuy, Mstyora and many others.

The opening ceremony was held by Gennady Drozhzhin, Chairman of the Board of the Folk Artistic Crafts of Russia Association. It was attended by Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Social Policy Inna Svyatenko, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs Svetlana Zhurova, Director of the Information and Press Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Maria Zakharova, Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Agrarian Food Policy and Environmental Management Sergei Mitin , State Duma deputy Roman Teryushkov, representative of Transneft PJSC Sergey Makeev, People’s Artist of Russia Nadezhda Babkina. On behalf of Expocentre, Nikolai Gusev, First Deputy General Director, warmly congratulated the participants and numerous visitors. He noted with satisfaction that the BOAT has been held at the Expocentre site for almost 20 years.

By tradition, the central exposition of the exhibition always becomes thematic – this year it hosts the All-Russian exhibition-competition “Hunting in the works of masters and artists of folk art crafts of Russia” Moscow Falconer “, dedicated to episodes from hunting life and the unique nature of our country.

The “City of Masters” also traditionally shares the secrets of professional craftsmanship – leading craft artists and craftsmen will demonstrate ancient techniques for making handicrafts: painting on wood, fabric and metal, pottery, bone, stone and wood carving, modeling toys, forging, lace weaving, jewelry art . Entertaining master classes on various types of trades and crafts have been prepared for young visitors. The audience will also see a concert program prepared by both professional artists and amateur creative teams from all over Russia.

The exhibition is accompanied by an extensive business program, within which specialists will have the opportunity to discuss the key problems of the folk arts and crafts industry. Various events are planned: round tables, panel discussions, consulting platforms. The topics of creation in the regions of associations of craftsmen and artisans, the tourism potential of places of traditional location of crafts, as well as the protection of intellectual property will be touched upon.
