The Ryazan Regional Duma has vested senatorial powers in the chairman of the committee on regulations, mandate issues and parliamentary ethics, acting rector of the Ryazan State University named after S. A. Yesenin, Igor Murog. Corresponding Solution accepted at the session of the regional parliament today, April 2.

Mr. Murog’s candidacy was proposed by the United Russia (UR) faction, of which he is a member. Previously, the appointment was supported by the party’s General Council. The decision was made by a majority vote, the regional Duma reported.

The post of representative of the legislative body of the Ryazan region in the Federation Council has remained vacant since November 2022, when he resigned at his own request gone Senator Igor Morozov.

In September 2023, Ryazan governor Pavel Malkov announced that the presidium of the regional political council of United Russia decided to nominate the former head of the Ryazan department of the Federal Tax Service, Vyacheslav Morozov, to the vacant seat, who had previously been elected to parliament in a by-election. However, Mr. Morozov’s nomination to the Federation Council never followed. Mr. Malkov did not publicly explain what this is connected with.

Igor Murog is 58 years old, he is a native of Ryazhsk, Ryazan region. He graduated from the Ryazan Higher Military Automotive Engineering School with a degree in Automotive Engineering, the Combined Arms Academy of the Russian Armed Forces with a degree in Management of the Operation of Weapons, Military Equipment and Technical Support for Troops, as well as the RANEPA with a degree in State and Municipal Administration. Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, Member of the Academy of Military Sciences.

From 1982 to 2012, he served in the armed forces of the USSR and the Russian Federation, and headed the Chelyabinsk Higher Military Automotive Command and Engineering School (2008–2010) and the Novosibirsk Higher Military Command School (2011). Since 2012, he worked as vice-governor of the Chelyabinsk region, and since 2015, as director of the Ryazan Institute of Moscow State Engineering University. In November 2022, he was appointed acting. O. Rector of the Russian State University named after S. A. Yesenin. He was elected to the Ryazan Regional Duma in 2015 and 2020.
