The new military doctrine of Belarus is aimed against “coalition wars”

Expert: “More than 100 thousand military and 10 thousand American soldiers are located near the western border of Belarus and Kaliningrad”

Belarus intends to update its military doctrine. It introduced provisions for a nuclear response and new concepts such as “interstate” and “coalition wars.” Also, according to official representative of the Ministry of Defense Artem Butorin, Minsk will consider an attack on a union state as a strike on its own territory. “MK” figured out which countries they intend to defend in Belarus.

According to the new military doctrine, Belarus will consider an attack on its allies as an attack on its own territory, said Artem Butorin, head of the information and political department of the General Staff of the Belarusian Armed Forces. “The military doctrine will definitely retain the provision that provides that an attack on any state allied to us will be considered an attack on the Republic of Belarus,” he said.

According to him, a separate chapter will appear in the military doctrine, where “all those provisions that are currently enshrined in international treaties that we have ratified with our allies, including within the framework of international organizations, will be brought together.”

In addition, the chapter will outline the basics of Minsk’s attitude towards peacekeeping activities under the auspices, in particular, of the UN and the CSTO. “We are participating in this activity. It would be right to legally enshrine these things in military doctrine,” Butorin said.

It is expected that the document will be presented to the All-Belarusian National Assembly in April of this year.

Reserve colonel, researcher at the Institute of Sociology of the Academy of Sciences of Belarus Alexander Tikhansky told MK about how the country’s new military doctrine will operate and which allied states Minsk intends to defend:

— The military doctrine of any state is a military-political document that considers the most general aspects of the military, political, economic and technological security of the country. And, of course, the basis of any doctrine is national security. In Belarus, the latest concept was adopted in 2010, and a new version is now being developed within the framework of the already adopted military doctrine of the Union State.

– What new provisions are there?

– Firstly, this is the use of nuclear weapons. The main factors and conditions that will regulate the use of nuclear weapons in the future are outlined. The typology of military conflicts has also been clarified. In Belarus, they have abandoned gradation in scale and instead of local and regional conflicts, they are considered as interstate and coalition wars. After all, for Belarus, any war will cover the entire territory of the state and will require the exertion of all forces.

In addition, the country offers itself as a basis for resolving conflict situations in Europe, for example, launching peaceful dialogues and various surveys. The country is open to dialogue with any states, including NATO member countries, subject to the cessation of their aggressive activities towards Minsk.

– An attack on which allies will Minsk consider an attack on its territory?

– This is not spelled out in military doctrine. But, of course, no one meant the CSTO. We were talking about the Union State and the common military doctrine between the countries, which has existed for about 20 years. This statement does not apply to, say, Azerbaijan and Armenia. Today, a large group threatens the Union State from the West. A situation is developing in Poland in which more than 100 thousand military and 10 thousand American soldiers are located near the western border of Belarus and Kaliningrad. These are the questions that were meant.

Emphasis was also placed on the adequacy of the measures taken by the state in accordance with the level of military danger. Today, from Poland we feel not only a military danger, but also a threat. Therefore, adequate measures are being taken: training centers are being created, nuclear weapons are being deployed, and a whole range of other headquarters and operational activities are being carried out.
