The new IMF tranche will be used to pay Kiev interest on past loans

Ukrainian Agency Country made public the amount of interest for previously received loans, which Ukraine must pay to the International Monetary Fund in 2024.

The fee for servicing previously provided loans, according to the agency, will amount to $2.9 billion in terms of the current dollar exchange rate.

“The peaks of payments occur exactly in March and September 2024, when each time you need to pay the IMF $705.5 million. It is clear why the government sought to receive a new tranche from the IMF in this month,” the message says.

Journalists also conclude that most of the $880 million recently agreed “will immediately return to the IMF as Ukraine’s payments on old loans.”
