As of February 1, the volume of the National Welfare Fund (NWF) amounted to 11 trillion 922.371 billion rubles, or 6.6% of GDP projected for 2023, reported Ministry of Finance. On January 1, the volume of the fund was 11 trillion 965.075 billion rubles, or 8% of GDP. Thus, over the month the volume of the fund decreased by 42.704 billion rubles. The department clarified that 227.517 billion Chinese yuan, 358.961 tons of gold in impersonal form and 294.8 million rubles were placed in the accounts of the National Welfare Fund.

At the end of 2023, the volume of the NWF decreased in dollars by 10%, from $148.35 billion to $133.4 billion. In rubles, due to the devaluation of the national currency, the NWF increased – from 10.435 trillion to 11.965 trillion rubles, that is, by 15 %. In addition, two and a half years after refusing to store reserves in dollars and a year after getting rid of pounds and yens, the Ministry of Finance was finally “freed” from savings in euros.
