The prize fund in the amount of 2 million tenge will be divided as follows: 60% will go to the winner, and 40% to the applicant.
On October 31, 2022, the reigning world champion Magnus Carlsen officially confirmed his refusal to participate in the defense of his title in classical chess in a match with the world’s third-ranked chess player Ian Nepomniachtchi.
Chinese grandmaster Ding Liren, who took 2nd place in the Candidates Tournament, thus earned the right to play for the chess crown.
