“The most successful urban planning practices”: the finalists of the international competition for the development of a master plan for Grozny were determined

The three best projects for the development of the city of Grozny were announced by the jury of an open international competition for the development of a master plan for the capital of the Chechen Republic. Architects from 24 countries in Europe, Asia, North Africa, Australia and South America worked on the concept; including 74 companies from Russia. As a result, the following reached the final: the Consortium led by Art. Lebedev Studio, the Consortium led by Lyudmila Ilyinichna Sharygina, and the Consortium led by MASTER’S PLAN LLC.

According to the press service of DOM.RF, the jury, chaired by the head of the region Ramzan Kadyrov, included 20 experts from Russia, China, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Great Britain. The judges considered 16 applications drawn up in accordance with the rules; 6 of them came from individual participants and 10 from consortiums with international participation, in total from 53 companies from 22 cities in 10 countries.

“Participants presented a number of interesting projects. For the final, concepts based on the most successful urban planning practices and sustainable development trends were selected. They take into account long-term plans for the development of sectors of the economy that are priority for the capital of the Chechen Republic,” said Denis Filippov, Deputy General Director of DOM.RF.

“The competition for the development of a master plan for Grozny caused a resonance in the international architectural community on four continents. At the next stage, we want to learn about the best practices that are applied in the development of other cities on the planet with similar conditions,” said Grozny Mayor Khas-Magomed Kadyrov.

Final proposals will be submitted in September. The master plan should take into account the urban planning, socio-economic, cultural and historical aspects of the development of the city.
