Moscow Prosecutor’s Office released warning on the eve of the presidential elections in connection with publications on the Internet calling for simultaneous arrival at polling stations at 12:00 on March 17. Previously, comrades of opposition leader Alexei Navalny called for such actions. The supervisory agency regards these actions as “uncoordinated mass public events.”
The Moscow prosecutor’s office noted that participation in “the specified public events” risks liability, since they can interfere with “the free exercise by citizens of their voting rights and the work of election commissions” (Article 141 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). For violation under this article, a fine of up to 80 thousand rubles may be imposed. or correctional labor.
The Russian presidential elections will be held from March 15 to 17. The Central Election Commission registered four presidential candidates: Vladimir Putin (self-nominated), Nikolai Kharitonov (Communist Party), Leonid Slutsky (LDPR), Vladislav Davankov (New People). More than 94 thousand polling stations have been prepared for the elections.
