The website of the Moscow Patriarchate officially announced the ban on the ministry of the rector of the Church of the Holy Trinity in Khokhly (in the Basmanny district of Moscow), publicist, TV presenter Alexei Uminsky.
In early January, the media reported about the ban on the archpriest’s ministry. Now the decree of Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’, dated January 3, has been published.
The text of the document states that Uminsky “is exempt from mandatory obedience and is prohibited from serving in the priesthood.” The ban will remain in effect until his case is considered by the disciplinary commission of the Moscow Diocesan Council.
Archpriest Andrei Tkachev was appointed to replace Uminsky, who was specially released for this purpose from serving in the Church of St. Basil the Great, which is located in the patriarchal courtyard in the village of Zaitsevo in the Odintsovo district of the Moscow region.
A number of media outlets associate Uminsky’s removal with his interview with Alexei Venediktov (recognized as a foreign agent in Russia) in which he discussed the use of military rhetoric by priests in the church and made pacifist statements.
