The Moscow court arrested in absentia the Ukrainian owner of “Khortytsya” Yevgeny Chernyak

The Khamovniki Court of Moscow arrested in absentia Yevgeny Chernyak (listed as terrorists and extremists), a Ukrainian businessman and owner of the Global Spirits alcohol holding (owns the Khortytsya distillery). He is suspected of financing terrorism due to donations to the Armed Forces of Ukraine (part 1.1 of article 205.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The term of arrest is two months. The case appeared in file cabinet today, 18 August.

The ruling on the case was made by the court the day before. According to investigators, from February to April 2022, the businessman transferred 500 million rubles to the armed forces of Ukraine. In addition, according to the investigation, in June 2023, he bought goods intended for combat operations for the Ukrainian military in the amount of 90 million rubles.

Evgenia Chernyaka announced wanted in Russia on 3 July. He was also included in the list of terrorists and extremists. The investigation considers the founders and leaders of his company to be the businessman’s accomplices. The accomplices have already been arrested. One was charged under the article on giving a bribe, the other – under the article on mediation in giving a bribe by a group of persons on an especially large scale.

Evgeny Chernyak is the CEO of the international alcohol holding Global Spirits. He owns the Khortytsya plant, the Odessa Cognac Factory and the Crimean Wine House, as well as the Khortytsya, Morosha, and Blagoff brands. After the outbreak of Russian hostilities in Ukraine, Global Spirits withdrew its licenses for production and distribution in the Russian market.
