The Moscow City Electoral Committee shared the key for decrypting the results of electronic voting in the mayoral elections

The procedure for splitting the key for decrypting the results of remote electronic voting in the upcoming elections of the mayor of Moscow took place in the Moscow City Electoral Committee. The key is divided into five parts, which are deposited with a member of the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation Igor Borisov, Chairman of the Council of Municipalities of Moscow Vladimir Dudochkin, Head of the Public Headquarters for Monitoring Elections in Moscow, member of the Moscow City Election Commission Yuri Yermolov, member of the Public Chamber of the capital Vadim Kovalev and Chairman of the Moscow City Duma Alexei Shaposhnikov.

“At least three parts of the key out of five are required in order to collect the decryption key after the end of the voting and start the procedure,” explained Artem Kostyrko, head of the department for improving territorial administration and developing smart projects of the Moscow government. the safe will be protected by this key for three days. The key was formed during the procedure at the Moscow City Electoral Committee and divided, “so that no one has the opportunity to peep something, somehow influence the elections, which will begin tomorrow.”

Elections of the mayor of Moscow will be held in the capital from 8 to 10 September. Participating in the elections are the current mayor of the city Sergei Sobyanin (nominated by United Russia), Moscow City Duma deputy Leonid Zyuganov (KPRF), State Duma deputy Dmitry Gusev (A Just Russia – For Truth), as well as State Duma vice-speakers Boris Chernyshov (LDPR) and Vladislav Davankov (“New People”).

Remote electronic voting in Moscow is organized on its own platform. It has been running since 2019. In last year’s municipal elections and in the 2021 Duma elections, almost 2 million voters used electronic voting. In the mayoral elections, electronic voting terminals at polling stations will also be connected to the DEG system, where, however, voters will also have the opportunity to traditionally express their will using a paper ballot. The polling stations will be open on September 8, 9 and 10 from 8 am to 8 pm, online voting will be possible around the clock from 8 am on September 8 to 7:59 pm on September 10. The key to decipher the results of the DEG will be connected after the closing of the polling stations.
