Deputy Chairman of the Moscow City Electoral Committee Dmitry Reut reacted to the proposal of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation to abolish the municipal filter for candidates from parliamentary parties for the election of the mayor of Moscow. He explained that in order to abolish the collection of signatures for candidates, it would be necessary to change the norms of federal legislation.

“The municipal filter for parliamentary parties in elections is a norm of federal legislation, and in order to abolish it, it would be necessary to change the norm of the Federal Law. At the level of Moscow, we cannot revise this norm,” said Mr. Reut (quoted by RIA Novosti).

In accordance with Russian law, in order to register for the election of the mayor of Moscow, all candidates must overcome the municipal filter, that is, collect signatures of municipal deputies in support of their nomination in the amount of 10% of their total number. In support of the nomination of a candidate for the post of mayor of the capital in 2023, it will be necessary to collect at least 110 signatures of deputies. Elections of the mayor of Moscow will be held on 10 September.
