The Moscow City Duma has developed a federal bill that prohibits foreign agents from being elected to state and local government bodies. Chairman of the Moscow City Duma Alexey Shaposhnikov spoke about this.
“Unfortunately, the Moscow City Duma has become the only parliament in the world with three deputies elected from the parties of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, Yabloko and A Just Russia and recognized as foreign agents. We are not ready to put up with such a dubious achievement in 2024,” Mr. Shaposhnikov told Kommersant.
He added that the task of the Moscow representatives of United Russia in the Russian presidential elections in March 2024 is to ensure support for the current President Vladimir Putin. Skills and experience will allow you to achieve the desired results, said Mr. Shaposhnikov.
In the elections to the Moscow City Duma in September 2024, Alexey Shaposhnikov called the goal of United Russia “victory in the primary organizations and victory throughout the city.” Other political forces, he said, “are trying to bring destruction to the work of the city legislative body.”
November 14 Vladimir Putin signed a law that clarifies the right to elect foreign agents as president. According to the changes, the party that nominated a foreign agent candidate is obliged to inform television and radio broadcasters in writing about his status no later than five days before the broadcast of the debate with his participation. If their broadcast should take place less than five days after the corresponding draw, then the party is obliged to inform about the foreign agency of its nominee on the day of the draw.
