The Moscow City Court recognized as legal the extension of the arrest of former DPR Defense Minister Igor Strelkov (Girkin) in the case of calls for extremism (Article 280 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). About it reports press service of the court.

September 12 Meshchansky Court extended arrest for Mr. Strelkov until December 18. The FSB, which is investigating Mr. Strelkov’s case, applied for an extension of the arrest. Contesting the FSB’s petition, the accused said that he could not hide from the investigation because he was wanted by Interpol as a convicted person in the case of the airliner crash (flight MH17) in 2014.

According to Igor Strelkov’s defense, the reason for the criminal case was two posts on Telegram about events in Crimea and problems with the pay of military personnel in two regiments. The charged article carries a penalty of up to five years in prison.
