The city council of Izmail in the Odessa region decided to move the monument to the Russian commander Alexander Suvorov to the territory of the local water utility.
Currently, the monument is located on the territory of the city garden in the center of Izmail.
The very decision to move the monument was made at the end of October. Now, local deputies have decided that the monument will be erected at the communal enterprise Izmail Industrial Administration of Water Supply and Sewerage.
This monument is more than 100 years old; it has been standing in Izmail since 1945. It was created in memory of the capture by Suvorov of the Turkish fortress of Izmail, which existed in the 16th-19th centuries on the banks of the Danube in the territory of the modern city of Izmail.
The assault on Ishmael took place in 1790. Federal Law No. 32-FZ of March 13, 1995 “On the Days of Military Glory and Memorable Dates of Russia” established the day of military glory on December 24 – the Day of the capture of the Turkish fortress Izmail by Russian troops under the command of A. V. Suvorov.
