The monks of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra filed a lawsuit with the Economic Court of Kyiv. They insist on the inadmissibility of terminating the perpetual lease agreement with the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra reserve, reports the Union of Orthodox Journalists, citing the lawyer of the monks, Archpriest Nikita Chekman.
“Lawyer of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, Archpriest Nikita Chekman, filed a lawsuit with the Economic Court of Kyiv on the inadmissibility of terminating the lease agreement with the Reserve unilaterally,” the report says.
Chekman recalled that the monastery had repeatedly turned to the Ukrainian government, the directorate of the reserve and other authorities to find out the conclusions of the interdepartmental working group, which allegedly established violations by the monastery of the terms of the contract. But no information was provided to the monastery, but the lease agreement was still decided to terminate.
“It was this injustice that served as the basis for applying for judicial protection,” Chekman said.
Recall that the monks of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church were ordered to leave the Lavra until March 29.
