A team of MISIS University students took first place in the entrepreneurship festival “I – YOU – MOSCOW 2023”, presenting the MediOsteo project with a rather complex content: “Bioresorbable magnesium alloys for implants used in osteosynthesis.”
As the authors of the MediOsteo project explained, it is aimed at increasing the life expectancy of Muscovites, improving their quality of life, as well as reducing trauma during surgery. Special magnesium alloys created by MISIS University students are fully compatible with the human body, have mechanical properties similar to those of bone tissue, so their use does not require a second operation.
This year, more than 10,000 applications were submitted to the entrepreneurship festival “I – YOU – MOSCOW 2023”, eight of which made it to the final.
“Our technology will improve the quality of life of Moscow residents, and, no less important, it has no analogues in Russia,” said Sofya Plegunova, a 1st-year graduate student at the Institute of New Materials and Nanotechnologies of the National University of Science and Technology MISIS. – I hope that the introduction of an advanced development for osteosynthesis operations will bring the quality of medical services provided here to a new level.
By the way, there are about 200 clinics and departments in Moscow that perform orthopedic, maxillofacial and reconstructive surgeries. Their need for fixing elements for various purposes is more than 1 million items per year. Veterinary clinics can also use the development.
