The number of foreign players that can be announced for matches by the clubs of the Continental Hockey League (KHL) has been reduced from five to three. According to order Ministry of Sports of Russia, the tightening of the limit will also affect the All-Russian Hockey League.
The new restrictions will come into effect from next season, from August 1, 2023. Earlier, the Ice Hockey Federation of Russia sent a proposal to reduce the number of foreign hockey players in applications for matches to the ministry.
Due to the political situation in the rosters of most KHL clubs happened changes due to the massive exodus of legionnaires. In the spring of 2022, more than 90 KHL players from European countries terminated their contracts with league teams.
