The Ministry of Justice proposed giving bailiffs the right to carry and use weapons – Kommersant

The Russian Ministry of Justice has developed a bill proposing to grant the right to carry weapons to bailiffs and investigative officers. The draft also gives bailiffs the right to use force in special cases. It is assumed that weapons will be issued only to trained employees – this is about 5 thousand people.

“As practice shows, situations often arise that pose a threat to the life and health of bailiffs and investigators,” the press service of the Ministry of Justice reported TASS. The Ministry of Justice’s project has already been approved by the government commission on legislative activities.

According to current legislation, only bailiffs have the right to use physical force, special means and firearms to ensure the established order of court activities. The Ministry of Justice drew attention to the fact that life-threatening situations arise for other employees as well.

The project was published on the federal portal draft regulatory legal acts. According to the document, the director of the FSSP will approve the list of positions of employees who have the right to carry, store and use firearms and special equipment.

Previously, the Ministry of Justice proposed not to search for a citizen’s property as part of enforcement proceedings if the amount of his debt does not exceed 30 thousand rubles. With a debt of this size, collection through property is not economically feasible in terms of costs and efficiency of the bailiffs, lawyers explain.
