The Russian Ministry of Justice has banned the public display of attributes and symbols of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA), the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN), the Ukrainian People’s Revolutionary Army (UNRA) and the Ukrainian People’s Self-Defense (UNS) – these organizations are recognized as extremist and are banned in the Russian Federation), it should from the list (.xlsx), published on the department’s website.
The Ministry of Justice clarified that the list was formed in accordance with Article 6 of the Federal Law “On the Perpetuation of the Victory of the Soviet People in the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945.” In the rules for determining the list (.doc) indicates that the list includes organizations that, in particular, collaborated with groups found guilty of crimes by the Nuremberg Tribunal or denying the conclusions of this trial.
According to the information contained in the list, the Ministry of Justice, in particular, banned the public display in Russia of slogans, emblems and flags of the UPA, OUN, UNRA and UNS.

In the 21st century, OUN members participated in the military conflict in eastern Ukraine.
The Ukrainian Insurgent Army is an underground military organization that operated during the Second World War, an armed offshoot of the OUN. The UPA existed from 1942 to 1949. UPA fighters fought with Soviet troops and attacked German troops. Members of the UPA are accused of mass extermination of the ethnic Polish civilian population in Western Ukraine (Volyn massacre).
