The Ministry of Justice filed a lawsuit to liquidate the St. Petersburg Society of Estonian Culture

The St. Petersburg City Court registered the claim of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation for St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region for the liquidation of the public organization “St. Petersburg Society of Estonian Culture”, reported in the joint press service of the courts of St. Petersburg.

The court accepted the claim for proceedings. The plaintiff demanded to liquidate the organization and exclude information about it from the Unified State Register of Legal Entities. The lawsuit was filed in court on February 21. The court hearing is scheduled for March 26. The case file on the website of the St. Petersburg City Court indicates that the interested person is Viyu Khansovna Fedorova. No other details about the case were provided.

“St. Petersburg Society of Estonian Culture” was registered in 1992. It declares the following goals: preserving the ethnic identity of Estonians living in St. Petersburg, the Estonian language and national traditions and maintaining ties with Estonia in the fields of culture, science and art. Among the events to which the society is involved, the official website lists the opening of the Church of St. John (known as Jaani Kirik), the publication of the Peterburi Teataja newspaper, the founding of the Kaja choir and the Neevo folk group. Members of the society organize Estonian language courses, hold traditional Estonian holidays, and cooperate with creative, scientific and public organizations.
