The Ministry of Justice excluded Transparency International Russia from the list of foreign agents – Kommersant

The Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation excluded the organization Transparency International Russia (an autonomous non-profit organization “Center for Anti-Corruption Research and Initiatives “Transparency International-R”, a branch of Transparency International, whose activities are recognized as undesirable in Russia) from list foreign agents. The organization previously decided to liquidate itself.
The date of exclusion of the organization from the list of foreign agents on the Ministry of Justice website is September 29. The OVD-Info project (foreign agent) drew attention to this.
Russian branch of Transparency International recognized foreign agent in 2015. The organization was included in the register on the recommendation of the Moscow Tagansk Interdistrict Prosecutor’s Office, which considered that the organization receiving foreign funding was engaged in political activities. In particular, prosecutors considered Transparency International Russia’s proposal to abolish the status of foreign agents for NPOs as an attempt to influence the Russian authorities.
On March 6, 2023, the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation recognized as undesirable the activities in Russia of the non-governmental organization Transparency International, headquartered in Berlin. On March 16, the founders of the Russian branch of this organization announced that Transparency International Russia would be liquidated, since the structure would not be able to continue its activities as before within the framework of the current legislation of the Russian Federation.
