The Ministry of Justice excluded the Humanitarian Action Foundation from the register of NPO-foreign agents

St. Petersburg Charitable Foundation “Humanitarian Action” excluded from the register of NPO-foreign agents. The fund is not listed in the register maintained by the Russian Ministry of Justice.
The grounds for the exclusion were the termination by the organization of performing the functions of a foreign agent, as well as the results of an audit conducted by the main department of the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation for St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region.
Humanitarian Action is one of the oldest HIV service organizations in Russia. She started working in St. Petersburg in 2001. The Foundation helps people at risk, in particular, drug addicts: arranges people for rehabilitation, restores documents, helps start taking medications for HIV infection, hepatitis and tuberculosis. “Humanitarian Action” actively participates in the All-Russian project “Stop HIV / AIDS” (launched on the initiative of the wife of the ex-president, Deputy Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Svetlana Medvedeva).
Part of NPO projects is carried out with foreign funds received, for example, from the Elton John Foundation and the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. it became one of the reasons why, in December 2020, Humanitarian Action was included by the Ministry of Justice in the register of NPO-foreign agents.
At the beginning of the year, the City Court of St. Petersburg canceled the decision to include the fund in the register. In the middle of the year the Court of Cassation canceled decision of the Petersburg City Court.
