The Ministry of Justice will allow prisoners to wear non-metal-rimmed glasses. This is stated in the amendments to the draft order on the approval of the internal regulations of the SIZO UIN. The document is published on the Federal Portal of Draft Regulatory Legal Acts.
The project provides for the presence of plastic or glass lenses in glasses. Cases for spectacles are also permitted by order. The document says that glasses will be allowed to be worn in a punishment cell, in a special regime colony, serving sentences in strict conditions or sentenced to life imprisonment.
Previously, glasses were included in the list of items that prisoners cannot have. The list is published on the website of the Ministry of Justice. In addition to glasses, money and valuables, straight razors, documents, and so on are prohibited to prisoners.
The draft order also clarifies the issues of visits in a pre-trial detention center and with life-sentenced prisoners. Children are allowed to meet with them accompanied by adults, and the number of children is not limited.
